Over the last 5 years, the price of gold has appreciated by more than 95% and the period was marked by aggressive value gains.

This has played a key role in propping the 278% gains reported by metal over the last ten years. This implies that if you invested $10,000 in gold ten years ago, this investment would be worth $27,800 at the time of writing.

Comparing Gold Performance to Other Assets

Silver: Over the same time, the value of an ounce of silver has appreciated by 210%. This implies that a similar investment in the alternative safe haven and store of value would be worth $21,000 today.

S&P 500: A similar investment in the S&P 500 would have fetched 21% less as the index is only up by 259% in the last 10 years. This implies that the investment would only have grown to $25,900.

Bitcoin: Bitcoin has been more aggressive than any other asset over the last decade. During this time, BTC prices have rallied by more than 41300%, more than 230x the value gain recorded by gold. This implies that a $10k investment in the legacy crypto asset would be worth more than $4,130,000 today.
